The faculty has established close relations with scientific institutions and universities of Ukraine: Institute of the Ukrainian language under the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and O. Potebnya Institute of linguistics under the National Academy of Ukraine, Rivne Institute of Slavonic Studies of Kyiv Slavonic University, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ivan Franko Lviv National University.

The faculty of Philology and its departments have tight relations with foreign universities: Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, RzeszówUniversity, Catholic University in Lublin, Ukrainian Free University.

Students of the faculty are encouraged to take up athletics, indoor soccer, table tennis.

 

Department of the Ukrainian language

The Department of the Ukrainian language was established in 1952. From 1955s to 1960s and from 1987s to 1988s a combined department of the Ukrainian language and literature was formed.

At various times the department was headed by :

Klavdij Yaskevych (senior lecturer) – 1952 – 1952 .

Yevgen Dmytrovskyi (senior lecturer) – 1952 – 1955.

Mykola Domnyckyi (senior lecturer) – 1955 – 1960.

Klavdij Yaskevych (Cand.Phil.Sci) – 1974 – 1979.

Scientific schools

There is a scientific school of accentology under the department( the founder and the head – Dr.of Philology, professor Vasyl Vynytskyi).

On the 4 th – 5 th of February 2010 the Ukrainian national conference in honor of the 75 th anniversary of Prof. M.Demski “The phraseological unit and the word in the text and dictionary” was held. On the 28 th -30 th of October 2010 the International scientific conference in honor of the 100th anniversary of Prof. G.Shylo “Dialect in linguistic and cultural space” was held.

The department provides teaching of such subjects as:

Department of Ukrainian literature and literature theory

The year of foundation-1945. Firstly, the department was combined: Ukrainian, Russian and foreign literature. In 1954 it was divided into the depatrment of Ukrainian literature and the department of Russian and foreign literature. In 1955 the department of Ukrainian literature and the department of the Ukrainian language were united and such a new union lasted to 1960. After that, the department was named as “The department of Ukrainian literature”, but since 1st February 2001 it has been called “The department of theory and history of Ukrainian literature”.

Conduction of organizational and educational measures
of the department of Ukrainian literature and literature theory
for the 2011/2012 academic year

  1. In November 2011 the department of       Ukrainian literature and theory of literature held a meeting with a writer, a laureate of the National Shevchenko Prize- Halyna Pagutyak and a Lviv publisher -Vasyl Habor. The writer showed her new book “ Pysar Zahidnych Vorit Prytulku”. The teachers and the students of the faculty of philology were invited to the meeting (Organizers : P.Ivanyshyn, M.Ivanyshyn).
  2. In December 2011 the department of       Ukrainian literature and theory of literature organized a meeting with a writer A. Kurkov too. The meeting was held in the assembly hall of the main building. The teachers and the students of our faculty took part in it.(Organizers: M.Shalata, I. Barna).
  3. In October 2011 prof. P.Ivanyshyn and associate prof. O.Bahan participated in a scientific discussion: “Honoring the UPA and study of the national liberation movement in history and literature” with the community of the town and students of The National Pedagogical University, which was held in the Drohobych library.
  4. 23.03.2012 the department organized an international scientific conference in memory of Vasyl Ivanyshyn “ Valuable paradigms of Ukrainian literarure of the 20th century.”.
  5. In April 2012 at the department of Ukrainian literature and theory of literature a meeting with a writer Stepan Protsyuk was held. In the course of events there was a presentation of two latest novels of the author (” Rose of the ritual pain”, “Masks fall slowly”).

On 23 March an international conference in memory of V. Ivanyshyn was held.

On 25 October 2012 the head of department Olena Kucyk took the floor at the seminar«Traditional and modern culture of Ukraine and Poland in the mirror of language» at the university of slavic faculty of Lublin Catholic University of John Paul II(Poland).The theme of the speech: «Drohobych: historical and cultural essay and changes in onomasticon ». There were also some meetings with the students, the teachers of Russian and Ukrainian.
